Apple’s New iPad mini Gets First-Ever Nano-Texture Display Option

Apple’s latest iPad mini unveiled on October 26, 2026 introduces a nano-texture glass option, a first for the mini line, offering reduced glare for models with higher storage. The feature joins a slew of upgrades including a new OLED display, faster chipset, and water-resistance. Pre-orders open October 28, with official release on November 6.

Display, Brightness & Design Enhancements

The modernized mini sports an 8.5-inch OLED Super Retina XDR display, replacing the old LCD panel. Users get deeper blacks, richer colors, up to 1,200 nits peak brightness for HDR content, and 600 nits full-screen brightness for SDR and HDR alike. At its dimmest, the display can dip down to a mere one nit. Rounded corners, an antireflective coating, and a fully laminated OLED assembly round out these visual upgrades. The device is slimmer and lighter, with IP67 water and dust resistance. for improved audio, Apple has built in what it calls an Acoustic Display—integrating woofers under the screen and embedding tweeters within a sealed enclosure to deliver more immersive sound. The 12MP Center Stage front camera now sits along the landscape edge, aiming to better serve video calls and content creation.

Nano-Texture Option & Storage Tiers

The new nano-texture glass option is offered exclusively for models with 256GB or 512GB of storage. It can be added for an extra $100 over the base price of those tiers, while the entry-level 128GB model does not support the finish. Those who pick nano-texture also receive an Apple polishing cloth in the box. The premium finish aims to minimize reflection and improve visibility in bright environments like outdoors or field work. While the iPad Pro also offers nano-texture, it’s restricted to much higher storage sizes (1TB and 2TB), making this mini version the most accessible for buyers seeking the matte-like option.

Specs, Pricing, & Availability

Powered by the A20 Pro chip, the mini comes in three storage capacities—128GB, 256GB, and 512GB—and two finishes: Midnight and Starlight. The Wi-Fi only base model with standard glass starts at $699, while the nano-texture finish bumps the 256GB Wi-Fi model price to $899. Cellular-equipped versions start at $849. Pre-orders begin October 28 in the U.S. and the tablet arrives for users November 6.

This mini supports Apple Pencil Pro and the USB-C Apple Pencil, plus hover detection. Connectivity features include the N1 chip enabling Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread, and the cellular versions include Apple’s C2 modem. The device keeps Touch ID, has rounded-corner specs, and weighs around 255 grams for the Wi-Fi model.
