Google Drive Rolls Out Enhanced Document Scanner for High-End Android Devices with Smart Batch Scanning

Google Drive Unveils Advanced Document Scanner for High-End Android Devices

Google Drive has introduced a significant update to its document scanning feature on Android, offering a more efficient and user-friendly experience for high-end devices. This enhancement, which has been in beta testing for several months, is now being widely deployed.

Key Features of the Updated Document Scanner:

1. Smart Batch Scanning: Users can now scan multiple pages in one go by simply hovering their device over the documents. This method resembles recording a video, eliminating the need to capture individual images. As pages are scanned, previews appear at the bottom of the interface, allowing for immediate review.

2. Auto-Best Frame Selection: To ensure optimal quality, the scanner automatically replaces blurry scans with the clearest available frames, enhancing the overall readability of the scanned documents.

3. Duplicate Detection: The system intelligently identifies and skips pages that have already been captured, streamlining the scanning process and preventing redundant scans.

4. On-Device Processing: By leveraging on-device processing, the scanner offers rapid performance, offline functionality, and enhanced data privacy. This approach ensures that sensitive documents remain on the user’s device without being transmitted over the internet.

It’s important to note that these advanced features are designed for Android devices equipped with at least 8 GB of RAM, ensuring smooth operation and optimal performance.

The updated document scanner is integrated into Google Play services and is also accessible through other applications, such as Files by Google.

Sameer Samat, an executive at Android, highlighted the improvements, stating:

This update underscores Google’s commitment to enhancing productivity tools for its users, providing a more seamless and efficient document management experience on mobile devices.
