XREAL Aura Brings Android XR — Starts at $1,279

XREAL has officially announced pricing for its Aura glasses, the company’s first product that fully incorporates Android XR. The entry-level model—equipped with 12 GB RAM and 256 GB storage—is priced at $1,279, with a higher-spec 16 GB/512 GB version going for $1,499. These prices come in under the promised “under $1,500” mark. Deliveries are expected to begin before the 2026 holiday season, followed by a second wave in early 2027. Pre-orders will open later this month, but customers must put down a $199 Priority Deposit, which will be applied toward the full cost. Premium Razor-thin fit options in the form of medium and large sizes don’t carry extra fees.

What Sets Aura Apart

XREAL’s Aura isn’t a typical VR headset, nor a set of smart glasses. It features a see-through lens that overlays digital content without requiring cameras, letting users blend virtual displays with the real world around them. Unlike the company’s earlier One Pro model—which mainly worked by tethering to USB-C devices like laptops, phones, or gaming consoles—Aura includes an integrated puck that bundles its own battery and processing power to enable Android XR, promising a more standalone and enhanced mixed reality experience.

Android XR and the Broader Market

Android XR is designed to bring immersive, mixed reality experiences to wearable display devices. Aura is among the first to ship with this platform built-in. Samsung has also confirmed it plans to launch its own Android XR glasses—likely with color displays—either later this year or at some point in 2027. Aura’s performance will be measured against what those competitors deliver in terms of content, brightness, latency, and form factor.

Pre-orders for Aura will require the $199 Priority Deposit, and the initial delivery window opens before year-end with broader availability in early 2027. Pricing tiers are clearly divided into the 12/256 GB model at $1,279 and the upgraded 16/512 GB version at $1,499.

What this means: Aura introduces Android XR in a fully integrated package, moving away from limitations of tethered devices. The price, while significant, undercuts many early premium XR devices and positions XREAL ahead in the growing field of augmented and mixed reality wearables.
