Two former TikTok veterans have launched a new tool tapping AI to help you strike the perfect pose in photos. It’s called Superpose—a camera app for iOS—and it generates pose suggestions, matches your posture in real time, and delivers guided feedback, all through cutting-edge computer vision and generative AI.
What Superpose Does
Superpose lets you take a selfie or photo of someone else and then presents four AI-created pose options. Some are dramatic, and some aim to be natural. Once you pick one or more, you can save them for inspiration or enable a “match-pose” mode, which overlays the suggested pose in the viewfinder so you can try to match it live with your body.
Who’s Behind It and Why
The app is built by Melody Chu and Jing Liu. Chu has product experience at Meta, Nextdoor, Roblox, TikTok, and Slack; Liu was an engineer in 3D face scanning and has worked on image and video models at TikTok. Their inspiration for Superpose came from a simple need—Chu’s husband struggled to snap flattering photos, prompting the idea that AI could translate insights about posing into real-world help.
Launch, Usage & Business Model
Superpose officially launched in July 2026. Since then it has been downloaded over 22,000 times, with users experimenting with more than 190,000 pose generations. It’s free to use with five pose generations per day; additional bundles range from five extra generations for US$2.99 or twenty for $9.99. The app aims to stay focused on portraiture and real-life moments, not creating fantasy scenes or heavily edited backgrounds.
Strengths, Challenges & Road Ahead
One of Superpose’s strengths lies in its tight scope—helping users improve how they pose for portraits, rather than trying to be all things AI. Yet pose suggestions can at times feel odd or uncanny. The team is actively refining generation styles, personalization, and direct coaching features via the viewfinder to make guidance more intuitive and natural.
Superpose has secured about US$2.2 million in funding from investors including Khosla Ventures, the selfie-app company Meitu, and OVTR VC. The startup aims to leverage this support to improve its AI models and expand how users engage with the app.
