Spotify has unveiled a new feature tailored for runners, enhancing the workout experience by integrating personalized music selections into their routines. This ‘Running Mode’ is designed to adapt to various phases of a run, curating tracks that align with the user’s tempo and preferences.
Available to Premium subscribers, the Running Mode can be accessed through the Fitness Hub within the Spotify app. Users can choose from 25 presets, each catering to different workout types such as interval runs, steady runs, or pyramid sessions. Additionally, runners have the flexibility to customize aspects like duration, beats per minute (BPM), and music genres to suit their individual needs.
Beyond music playback, the feature offers audio cues to guide users through different stages of their run, providing real-time feedback and motivation. Currently, these audio cues are available exclusively in English.
This innovation builds upon Spotify’s previous ventures into fitness-focused content. Earlier this year, the company partnered with Peloton to introduce fitness-related material, reflecting a growing trend of integrating music streaming services with workout platforms. Moreover, Spotify’s collaboration with Strava in 2023 allowed users to control their music directly from the Strava app, streamlining the workout experience.
The introduction of Running Mode underscores Spotify’s commitment to enhancing user engagement by offering features that cater to specific activities. By leveraging artificial intelligence and user data, Spotify aims to provide a more immersive and personalized experience, potentially setting a new standard for how music streaming services can complement fitness routines.
