Nirva Raises $33M to Power a Pendant That Listens Only to You

Nirva has secured $33 million in funding to support its debut wearable: a pendant designed to listen exclusively to the wearer, not those around them.

Design and Identity

Founded in 2025 by former employees of Meta Reality Labs—Wei Lyu and Jason Chen—alongside fashion designer Hanying Hu, Nirva blends tech and style. Its first product is a lightweight pendant (also wearable as a bracelet) weighing approximately eight grams, with a battery life of up to three days per charge. While future hardware is planned, this is the company’s initial entry. Pricing is set at $249, with colors including silver, brushed silver, black, and gold. Preorders begin in November, with shipments targeting late in the calendar year.

How It Works: Privacy as Priority

Nirva’s device follows the ambient AI trend—constantly active, yet attentive only to the wearer’s voice. During setup, users provide samples of their voice, enabling the device to recognize and focus solely on their speech. It filters out speech from others and does not retain raw audio or transcripts after processing.

The companion app analyzes the wearer’s speech patterns—tone, volume, speed, and pitch—to generate insights about their emotions, communication style, social interactions, and recurring behaviors. It surfaces reminders and action prompts, such as nudging gratitude or calling out patterns of behavior, with the goal of boosting self-awareness and empathy rather than merely logging productivity data.

Funding, Competition, and Positioning

The recent funding round, a $25 million pre-Series A, adds to the $8 million Nirva raised earlier in 2026, bringing total investment to $33 million. Among backers are Lightspeed and South Park Commons. Nirva intends to focus not on traditional productivity tools but on fostering self-understanding and interpersonal growth.

The wearable faces competition from startups like Taya, Friend, and Bee—all also developing intelligent jewelry or wearable companions. What sets Nirva apart is its always-on voice modeling—even when you’re not actively using the device—while maintaining privacy safeguards.

Launch Timeline & Availability

Orders open in November, with early units expected to ship by year-end. The device’s minimalist design, combined with its lightweight build and privacy-first AI capabilities, make it a unique offering in the current wave of ambient wearables.

What this means: Nirva steps into the ambient AI arena with a bold privacy claim—only you, speaking, are ever heard. As wearables increasingly blur the lines between personal assistant and personal confidant, trust and ethics are becoming core selling points.
