Meta has unveiled a new line of smart glasses, named Meta Glasses, starting at $299. These glasses are produced in collaboration with EssilorLuxottica but do not carry the Ray-Ban or Oakley branding seen in previous models. Available in multiple countries, the Meta Glasses come in various color and lens combinations.
Unlike some competitors, these glasses lack a display but are equipped with a camera and personal speakers. A dedicated button, customizable by the user, defaults to activating the Meta AI assistant. The glasses offer over eight hours of battery life, with an accompanying charging case providing up to 40 additional hours of use.
The collection includes three models: the Meta Adventurer, featuring a rectangular design in standard and large sizes; the Meta Fury, with a boxier frame; and the Meta Glasses by Kylie, a slim oval frame designed in collaboration with Kylie Jenner.
Meta’s AI assistant on these glasses can answer questions, understand visual inputs, and assist with daily tasks. Upcoming features include pedestrian navigation for walking directions and support for 14 new languages in the live translation feature, such as Japanese, Mandarin, Hindi, and Korean.
This launch follows Snap’s recent introduction of its Specs smart glasses, priced at $2,195. Meta’s more affordable offering aims to capture a broader market segment and solidify its position in the wearable technology space.
By introducing a more affordable line of smart glasses under its own brand, Meta is positioning itself to appeal to a wider audience. This move could accelerate the adoption of wearable AI technology, making it more accessible to consumers and potentially setting a new standard in the industry.
