MacPaw Partners with Liquid AI to Enable On-Device AI for Developers

MacPaw, a Ukrainian app development company, has announced a partnership with Liquid AI to integrate locally hosted AI models into its products. This collaboration aims to provide developers with on-device inference capabilities, enhancing privacy and performance for applications within MacPaw’s ecosystem.

Currently, MacPaw is developing Eney, an AI assistant unveiled last year. The company plans to create a locally hosted version of Eney by leveraging Liquid AI’s expertise in on-device inference systems, specifically through a system called Elix and a local memory system. Liquid AI’s approach involves selecting architectures tailored to specific hardware, ensuring efficient and secure on-device intelligence.

Oleksandr Kosovan, CEO of MacPaw, emphasized that locally hosted AI models will enable users to operate assistants and agentic workflows offline, addressing privacy and security concerns. While Apple offers its own local models to developers, Liquid AI focuses on performance across various capabilities and provides a customization stack that allows models to adapt and improve over time based on user input.

MacPaw also plans to enhance its subscription-based app store, SetApp, which boasts over 150,000 paying users, by focusing more on AI applications. Once the local processing architecture is established with Liquid AI, MacPaw intends to make this technology available to developers, offering a platform that supports on-device inference and access to cloud models from companies like Google.

Additionally, MacPaw is experimenting with credit-based pricing for its app store, allowing users to perform a certain number of AI operations based on their credits and the complexity of the tasks.

This partnership signifies a growing trend towards on-device AI processing, which offers benefits such as reduced latency, enhanced privacy, and offline functionality. By providing developers with tools for on-device inference, MacPaw and Liquid AI are positioning themselves at the forefront of this movement, potentially setting new standards for AI application development.
