iOS 27 Beta 2 Introduces ‘Insights’ Feature in Wallet App

Apple’s latest iOS 27 Beta 2 introduces a new ‘Insights’ feature within the Wallet app, aiming to provide users with a comprehensive overview of their financial activities. This addition allows users to connect various financial accounts to the Wallet app, enabling monitoring of spending patterns, recurring transactions, and account balances.

Upon accessing the Wallet app in iOS 27 Beta 2, users can find the ‘Insights’ feature by tapping the three dots located in the upper right corner. A splash screen introduces the feature, stating that users can link their accounts to view detailed spending insights and more. The accompanying fine print clarifies that the device connects to financial institutions through an Apple-owned subsidiary, which retrieves, categorizes, and standardizes account information for display. Importantly, it emphasizes that this account information is not stored on the device.

Currently, the ‘Insights’ feature appears to be in its early stages. Tapping the ‘Continue’ button on the splash screen leads to the ‘Add to Wallet’ interface without presenting new options, indicating that the functionality is not yet fully operational.

Historically, Apple’s Wallet app has offered detailed transaction information primarily for the Apple Card. Support for other cards and accounts has been limited. In iOS 17.1, Apple introduced the ‘Connected Cards’ feature, allowing users to view total card balances, utilize rewards, and access transaction histories. However, adoption was limited, with Discover being one of the few U.S. issuers to implement support. Notably, Discover removed this functionality in early June, and few other U.S. issuers adopted it. Some UK banks continue to offer deeper integration with the Wallet app’s ‘Connected Cards’ option.

The introduction of ‘Insights’ in iOS 27 Beta 2 suggests that Apple is working towards a more integrated financial management tool within the Wallet app. Unlike the previous ‘Connected Cards’ feature, which required specific support from card issuers, ‘Insights’ appears to be designed to function independently of issuer participation. This development could signify a shift towards a more user-centric approach, allowing individuals to manage and monitor their financial information seamlessly within the Apple ecosystem.

As ‘Insights’ is currently in beta and not fully functional, it remains to be seen how Apple will implement and refine this feature in future updates. Users can anticipate a more robust and comprehensive financial management experience within the Wallet app as Apple continues to develop and enhance its capabilities.
