Seamless Food Ordering Integration
Users can now place food orders directly through Google Maps. By issuing commands like “order spicy pad kee mao with seafood for me to pick up on my way home,” the app identifies open restaurants along the user’s route, allows selection of a preferred establishment, and adds the specified dish to the cart for review and checkout. This functionality is initially available with partners such as Square and Toast, with Uber Eats integration anticipated in the near future.
Enhanced Travel Planning and Live Transit Updates
For travelers, ‘Ask Maps’ offers real-time information on hotels and events. It compares hotel prices, checks availability, and suggests nearby activities, facilitating comprehensive trip planning. Additionally, a new transit widget provides up-to-the-minute updates on delays for various modes of public transportation, including buses, trains, subways, and ferries.
Personalized Assistance and Community Contributions
The introduction of the Personal Intelligence feature allows ‘Ask Maps’ to connect with Gmail, enabling the assistant to access upcoming plans without explicit instructions. This integration is optional and disabled by default. Furthermore, ‘Ask Maps’ can retain prior conversations for contextual understanding if history settings are activated. Users can also contribute insider tips through conversational edits, enriching the community’s knowledge base.
These enhancements are currently rolling out in the United States, with plans to expand to additional countries in the future. ‘Ask Maps’ is accessible via the web and the Google Maps app for iOS.
