Google Health Enables Fitbit Data Sync with Apple Health

Google Health has introduced a significant update to its iOS application, enabling seamless synchronization of Fitbit workout data with Apple Health. This development allows users to consolidate their fitness metrics within Apple’s ecosystem without relying on third-party applications or manual data transfers.

Previously, the Google Health app could import data from Apple Health, such as recordings from an Apple Watch, but lacked the capability to write data back to it. The latest update, version 5.05, addresses this limitation by facilitating bidirectional data sharing between Google Health and Apple Health. As a result, activities tracked by Fitbit devices, including steps, heart rate, and workouts, can now be directly integrated into the Apple Health app.

To activate this feature, users need to update their Google Health app to the latest version and grant the necessary permissions for data sharing with Apple Health. This process ensures that all fitness data is accurately synchronized across both platforms, providing a comprehensive view of one’s health and fitness metrics.

This enhancement is part of Google’s broader strategy to unify health data management. In May 2026, Google rebranded the Fitbit app as Google Health, aiming to create a centralized platform for health and fitness information. The app integrates data from various sources, including wearable devices, Health Connect, and medical records, offering users a holistic view of their health status.

By enabling Fitbit data to sync with Apple Health, Google Health is fostering greater interoperability between its services and Apple’s ecosystem. This move not only enhances user convenience but also reflects a growing trend towards collaborative health data management among tech giants. Users can now enjoy a more streamlined experience, accessing all their health and fitness information in one place, regardless of the devices they use.
