Google Health 5.02 Enhances Sleep and Activity Tracking

Google Health has released version 5.02, introducing several enhancements to its Android and iOS applications. This update focuses on improving user experience in sleep monitoring, activity tracking, and nutrition logging.

Enhanced Sleep Monitoring

The latest update brings significant improvements to sleep tracking. Users can now easily locate and review recorded naps, which are displayed on separate tabs within the daily Sleep Score view. Additionally, the Restlessness bar has been repositioned closer to the sleep stages graph, allowing for a more intuitive comparison of restlessness and awake data. The update also addresses issues related to editing and deleting sleep sessions, ensuring a smoother user experience.

Activity Tracking Improvements

Activity tracking has been refined with the reintroduction of Hourly Activity charts. These charts enable users to monitor their step goals per hour directly from the Today and Health tabs. Users can customize their dashboards by adding Hourly Activity through the pencil icon on the Today tab or the “Customize” option on the Health tab. The update also resolves issues where steps and distance were incorrectly reported as zero for certain manually logged activities and addresses inaccuracies in distance reporting for automatically detected bike rides.

Nutrition Logging Enhancements

Nutrition tracking has been optimized with faster search results in the food database. On Android, search results now display serving units and calorie information, with this feature expected to arrive on iOS in the next release. Additionally, macronutrient estimations are now displayed on the main logging page, allowing users to preview nutritional information before completing their log entries.

These updates demonstrate Google’s commitment to refining the Health app by addressing user feedback and enhancing functionality. As the app continues to evolve, users can anticipate further improvements that will provide a more comprehensive and user-friendly health tracking experience.
