Apple TV 4K Gains Hands-Free Siri with Built-In Far-Field Mics

Apple has introduced a refreshed version of the Apple TV 4K (fourth generation) that finally brings hands-free Siri functionality. Three far-field microphones are now built directly into the set-top box so users can activate Siri just by speaking, even while watching content, without having to grab the Siri Remote. Apple claims this feature works even against the noise of TV and movie audio via advanced echo cancellation.

What’s New Under the Hood

Alongside the mic upgrade, the new model is powered by Apple’s A19 chip and includes Secure Enclaves—dedicated hardware to isolate microphone data. This means voice inputs are processed in a manner that Apple says cannot be accessed by tvOS, apps, or even the company itself.

The far-field Siri capability works when the primary tvOS language is set to English, Mandarin Chinese, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Hebrew, Norwegian, or Swedish. Users can trigger Siri by saying “Hey Siri” or just “Siri,” whether a video is playing or not. In addition to media control, the microphones enable hands-free control of compatible smart home devices and conversational search via Siri AI.

Availability and Pricing

This upgraded Apple TV 4K is available for preorder now in the U.S. with a price of $299. Deliveries begin November 13.

This change marks an overdue but significant shift. For years, Apple TV users have been tethered to the Siri Remote to issue commands; now the experience becomes more seamless, similar to Echo or HomePod voice control. The inclusion of far-field mics and privacy-focused Secure Enclaves positions this as much more than just a hardware refresh—it signals Apple doubling down on voice as a core interaction method in its living room ecosystem. What to watch: how well echo cancellation holds up in real-world use, whether latency sneaks into responses during loud scenes, and how broadly Apple can expand language support over time.
