Owners of 2021 and newer Apple TV 4K units are in for a boost: Siri AI is coming to devices going back to the 2nd generation Apple TV 4K. This upgrade—rolling out in the tvOS 27.2 beta—adds a conversational Siri experience, natural language searches, personalized recommendations, and follow-up questions. No need to buy new hardware just to get the smarter assistant.
What’s Changing
The incoming Siri AI upgrade gives users a more fluid interaction model. Instead of rigid voice commands, you’ll be able to converse with Siri, ask follow-up questions, and get recommendations based on what you’ve watched or asked about.
A new full-screen interface is also introduced for browsing movies and shows. When using Siri during playback—for example, to ask about a show’s awards—the responses appear as a compact overlay so you won’t lose your viewing experience. And if you have a compatible iPhone or iPad with the latest software, Siri AI can tap into your personal context, such as messages, to give more relevant results.
Compatibility & Availability
The feature will be available in the beta version of tvOS 27.2. To use it, you’ll need one of the newer Apple TV 4K models—starting from the 2nd generation from 2021 onward. Owners of older models will miss out on some features like built-in far-field microphones.
Besides hardware, a supported language and an Apple Intelligence-capable iPhone or iPad running up-to-date software are also required. At launch, English will be supported in eight countries: the U.S., Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, and the U.K.
The latest Apple TV 4K model adds three far-field mics so you can use Siri hands-free even during playback. Older units will still get Siri AI, but without embedded microphones for always-on voice control.
This isn’t just another incremental update—this marks a shift toward more conversational, intelligent assistants across Apple devices. By extending Siri AI to existing Apple TV hardware, the company avoids forcing a hardware upgrade while advancing its vision for more natural voice interactions in the living room. What to watch next: how fast this beta becomes stable, the final list of supported languages, and whether future Apple TV software updates expand these AI features even further.
