Apple TV+ Announces ‘Disavowed’: A New Action Thriller Starring James Marsden

Apple TV+ has officially announced the development of a new action thriller series titled Disavowed, featuring James Marsden in the lead role. This project marks the second collaboration between Marsden and Apple TV+, following his performance in the acclaimed series Your Friends & Neighbors.

In Disavowed, Marsden portrays Brad Griffin, a seasoned CIA Case Officer who finds himself abruptly dismissed during an international pursuit of a notorious assassin responsible for the death of a colleague. Stripped of his position and ostracized from the intelligence community, Griffin embarks on a personal mission to capture the assassin and claim the $15 million federal bounty on their head.

The series is the brainchild of screenwriters Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, known for their work on blockbuster films such as Iron Man and Uncharted. Their expertise in crafting compelling narratives is expected to bring depth and intensity to Disavowed.

Production of the series is entrusted to Blue Marble Pictures, the studio behind the award-winning series Pachinko, which aired from 2022 to 2024. The involvement of Blue Marble Pictures suggests a commitment to high production values and storytelling excellence.

James Marsden’s role in Disavowed adds to his growing portfolio of diverse characters. His recent portrayal of Owen Ashe in the second season of Your Friends & Neighbors has been met with critical acclaim, showcasing his versatility as an actor.

Your Friends & Neighbors, created by Jonathan Tropper, debuted on Apple TV+ on April 11, 2025. The series follows Coop, played by Jon Hamm, a recently divorced hedge fund manager who turns to burglary in his affluent neighborhood to maintain his family’s lifestyle. The show has been praised for its sharp writing and engaging performances, leading to early renewals for subsequent seasons.

The announcement of Disavowed underscores Apple TV+’s commitment to expanding its repertoire of original content, offering subscribers a diverse array of genres and storytelling styles. While the premiere date for Disavowed has yet to be announced, anticipation is building for what promises to be a gripping addition to the platform’s lineup.
