YouTube Music Updates Interface, Moves Search to Bottom Navigation for Easier Use

YouTube Music Enhances User Experience by Moving Search to Bottom Navigation

In a significant update aimed at improving user accessibility, YouTube Music has repositioned its Search function to the bottom navigation bar. This change replaces the previous Explore tab, aligning the app’s interface with other leading streaming services and enhancing one-handed usability.

The updated bottom bar now features Home, Samples, Search, and Library tabs. The top-right corner is streamlined to include only the profile menu and the Activity/notifications feed. Upon tapping the magnifying glass icon, users are immediately presented with the keyboard for text input, alongside options for voice and song search. Below the search input, the interface displays recent queries, followed by sections such as New Releases, Charts, Moods & Genres, and Podcasts, effectively integrating much of the previous Explore page’s content.

This redesign has been in testing since last year and is now being widely rolled out with version 9.22 on iOS and 9.21 on Android. Users who do not see the update immediately can try force-stopping the app from the App Info settings to prompt the change. As of this afternoon, the update is broadly available.

This move reflects YouTube Music’s commitment to enhancing user experience by making navigation more intuitive and accessible, particularly for one-handed use. By aligning the app’s layout with industry standards, YouTube Music aims to provide a more seamless and user-friendly interface for its diverse user base.
