WhatsApp is developing a new feature to enhance message retrieval within individual conversations. Traditionally, users have had two primary methods to search for messages: a global search across all chats from the main chat list and a localized search within a specific chat’s info screen.
The upcoming feature introduces a search button that appears in the bottom-right corner when users scroll up through a conversation. This button is designed to facilitate quicker access to the search function without navigating away from the chat. Its behavior mirrors the existing ‘jump to latest message’ button, appearing contextually during upward scrolling and disappearing when users return to the most recent messages.
While the search results from this in-chat tool are expected to be consistent with those from the current chat info screen search, the new placement aims to streamline the user experience by reducing the steps needed to locate specific messages.
As of now, this feature is under development and has not been made available to beta testers. It is anticipated to roll out in a future TestFlight update before being released to the general public.
