Vivo’s upcoming X Fold 6 foldable phone skips the trend toward ultra-wide inner displays and instead delivers a more traditional folding experience—yet promises to shake up the camera game in serious ways.
Display, chip, and battery essentials
The device features an 8.02-inch inner screen and a 6.51-inch outer display, making it more compact than some recent ultra-wide folding phones. Power comes from MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500 Super Edition chipset, paired with either 12 GB or 16 GB of RAM and storage tiers of 256 GB, 512 GB, or 1 TB. For longevity, Vivo packs a 6,900 mAh battery into the build. Physical protection gets a boost too, with IP58/59 rated water and dust resistance. It launches with OriginOS 7, based on Android 17.
Camera setup that raises the bar
The camera system is positioned as the headline. The main sensor is a 200-megapixel “Samsung HPB Large Sensor,” which Vivo supports with a 50-MP 3× periscope telephoto lens and a 50-MP ultrawide camera. The manufacturer includes ZEISS optics across the system and adds a teleconverter accessory to push zoom further. Upgrades have been noted for shutter responsiveness, especially in portrait mode, along with improved subject tracking.
One feature many foldables are judged on is how well they deliver excellent camera performance without compromise—Vivo appears to focus resources there instead of stretching the folding panel wider.
Global release—but not in the US
Vivo has confirmed that the X Fold 6 will roll out globally, though it will not be officially sold in the United States. Details about pricing and exact launch markets haven’t yet been finalized.
What it all means: Vivo’s choice to stick with a taller fold rather than a wide, almost tablet-like inner screen suggests a prioritization of pocketability and usability in one-hand folds. The 200 MP main camera and strong secondary optics indicate Vivo is leaning hard into making imaging a differentiator in an increasingly crowded foldable market. Consumers who’ve wanted foldables for productivity alongside great photography might finally get a device that delivers on both. Whether the global pricing lands competitively—and whether Vivo can persuade customers outside its traditional strongholds without a US release—will be key to how the X Fold 6 fares in battle against Samsung’s Fold series and others down the stretch.
