Music streaming service TIDAL has announced a new policy aimed at regulating AI-generated music on its platform. Effective July 15, 2026, tracks identified as wholly produced by artificial intelligence will be labeled with an ‘AI’ badge and will not be eligible for monetization, including royalties and direct-to-fan sales. Additionally, TIDAL plans to implement automated tools to detect and remove AI-generated content that impersonates artists or groups.
The company emphasizes its commitment to protecting and rewarding organic creativity, ensuring that artists can connect with and build their fanbase without interference from AI-generated content. TIDAL acknowledges the role of technological advancements but aims to maintain the integrity of human-created music.
This move aligns TIDAL with other streaming services like Spotify, Apple Music, and Deezer, which have also introduced measures to address the influx of AI-generated tracks. For instance, Spotify has updated its policies to label AI music and filter spam, while Deezer actively removes AI tracks from recommendations and editorial playlists.
By restricting the monetization of AI-generated music, TIDAL seeks to deter the proliferation of such content and uphold the value of human artistry. This policy serves as a proactive step in maintaining the authenticity of music available to listeners.
