Things 3.23 Overhauls Repeating To-Dos for Enhanced Flexibility

Things 3.23 introduces a comprehensive overhaul of its repeating to-dos feature, addressing longstanding user requests for greater flexibility and control. This update brings several key enhancements to the task management experience.

Key Enhancements in Things 3.23

Users can now complete repeating tasks ahead of their scheduled time. Each repeating to-do features a standard checkbox, allowing early completion without disrupting the established recurrence pattern.

When rescheduling a fixed-schedule repeating to-do, users are presented with two options: ‘Make Exception’ adjusts only the selected instance, leaving future occurrences unchanged, while ‘Update Rule’ modifies the recurrence pattern for all future instances.

For to-dos set to repeat after a certain period post-completion, rescheduling simply moves the task to the new date without additional prompts, streamlining the process.

The ‘Create Next Copy’ feature enables users to generate the next instance of a repeating to-do or project before its scheduled date, facilitating early preparation or note-taking.

Generated copies of repeating to-dos now display a subtle grey repeat icon, providing a clear visual cue of their recurring nature.

The setup dialog for configuring repeating to-dos has been redesigned for a more intuitive experience, simplifying date selection and recurrence settings.

Users can now pause, resume, or stop multiple repeating to-dos simultaneously, enhancing efficiency in task management.

The codebase for displaying and editing to-dos has been unified across Mac, iPadOS, and iOS platforms, ensuring a consistent user experience.

Additionally, Things offers a dedicated list that consolidates all repeating to-dos and projects, along with their upcoming instances. This list is accessible by typing ‘Repeating’ into the app’s search field.

Things 3.23 is available as a free update on the App Store for Mac, iPad, iPhone, and Vision Pro. The update requires macOS 13.3, iOS and iPadOS 16.4, watchOS 9.1, and visionOS 26, or newer.

This update signifies a significant step forward in task management, offering users enhanced flexibility and control over their repeating to-dos. By addressing user feedback and implementing these improvements, Things 3.23 solidifies its position as a leading productivity tool in the market.
