TCL has expanded its Tab A1 series with a new 11-inch model that comes in two versions: one with its paper-like NXTPAPER display and another standard display without the matte finish or stylus.
What You Get
The two tablets share most of their hardware: an 11-inch screen at 2,112×1,320 resolution with a 90Hz refresh rate and a 16:10 aspect ratio. Under the hood it’s 6GB RAM, 128GB storage, plus a microSD slot, all powered by an 8,000mAh battery. They ship running Android 16. The NXTPAPER variant adds a matte screen and includes stylus support; the regular version sticks with a standard glossy panel.
A Cost-Cutting Chip?
Both tablets use the MediaTek Helio G100 chipset — a budget chip first released around 2024 that was itself only a modest upgrade over the older Helio G99. It’s serviceable for basic tasks, but it’s underwhelming considering that the NXTPAPER version is priced at up to $299. Given that, performance for demanding apps or multitasking may lag expectations.
Pricing & What It Means
TCL says you can buy the NXTPAPER version for $249 on its website, or $229 via Amazon. The non-NXTPAPER model drops to about $179 on both channels. All in, you’re paying roughly $50 more for the NXTPAPER finish and stylus—if the chip doesn’t hold you back.
This launches at a time when other manufacturers are pushing high-refresh OLEDs, powerful processors, and feature-rich accessories even in budget tablets. TCL’s trade-off here is clear: you get premium screen feel and tools at the expense of raw computing power.
Takeaway: The 11-inch Tab A1 NXTPAPER is tempting thanks to its display finish, stylus inclusion, and solid battery, especially at sub-$250 price points. But the Helio G100 might feel sluggish depending on your use. If your priority is reading, note-taking, or light media—this could hit the sweet spot.
