Strava rolls out coach-led strength workouts with live tracking

Strava is upgrading its strength training tools, adding coach-designed workouts with live set and rep tracking for subscribers. The update builds on earlier improvements to the strength log, which recently added support for tracking weights, sets, reps, and automatic muscle mapping.

What’s new

The new features guide users through workouts designed by expert strength coaches. Each exercise includes animations, form tips, and information about the muscle groups being targeted. During workouts, users can record sets and reps in real-time, and those metrics are automatically saved to the session once the workout ends. As before, the app’s muscle map reflects completed efforts for a visual summary.

These coach-led routines are rolling out to paid users in the coming weeks. Free users will be able to try a sample workout so they can get a feel for how it works before subscribing.

Looking ahead

Alongside the strength feature updates, new guided running workouts are also being added. Strava says there are more workout series in development, slated for release later this year.

The company is also working on letting users import strength training plans by uploading screenshots of training notes or plans with sets and reps. A feature to build custom workouts is in progress too.

These additions extend Strava’s recent overhaul of its strength tools, which introduced a dedicated log for weights, reps, and sets, along with automatic muscle maps to help users track where their training effort goes.

With this update, Strava is pushing further into guided training territory, turning its strength tools into a more interactive experience rather than just a tracking utility. Users who like structure and feedback during workouts now have more reason to lean into Strava’s premium tier. On the horizon: deeper customization and seamless importing of training plans—watch for those to shape the strength training space going forward.
