Rivian’s CEO, RJ Scaringe, is set to speak at Disrupt 2026, scheduled for October 13-15 at San Francisco’s Moscone Center. He will share insights into the company’s journey in designing, manufacturing, and delivering electric vehicles (EVs) at scale, addressing the complexities of hardware production and supply chain management.
Rivian operates at the intersection of artificial intelligence, software, robotics, manufacturing, and transportation. Scaringe has dedicated nearly two decades to navigating this multifaceted landscape, positioning the company to thrive amid increasing competition in the EV market.
The company recently began delivering the R2 SUV, priced at approximately $58,000. This model is pivotal for Rivian’s strategy to expand beyond the niche market, especially as demand for higher-priced EVs declines and competition from more affordable Chinese manufacturers intensifies. Scaringe has described the R2 as “maybe the most important thing we’ve launched to date.”
Beyond vehicle production, Rivian is advancing its autonomous driving capabilities, aiming to achieve Level 4 autonomy by 2028. The company is also developing its own charging network, with aspirations to become one of the largest in the United States.
In addition to his role at Rivian, Scaringe founded Mind Robotics, a humanoid robotics company that has raised $900 million this year. Serving as executive chair and acting CEO, Scaringe envisions Rivian’s factory in Normal, Illinois, as a testing ground for integrating human and robotic collaboration on the assembly line, addressing anticipated labor shortages in the manufacturing sector.
At Disrupt 2026, Scaringe will elaborate on how these diverse initiatives interconnect and share lessons learned from building physical products while incorporating AI technologies. His session is part of a broader lineup of discussions at the event, which will bring together over 10,000 founders, investors, and technologists.
Scaringe’s multifaceted approach underscores a strategic vision that extends beyond traditional automotive manufacturing. By investing in autonomy and robotics, Rivian aims to position itself as a leader in the evolving transportation landscape, addressing both current market demands and future technological advancements.
