Peacock Increases Subscription Prices Across All Tiers

Peacock, NBCUniversal’s streaming platform, has announced a price increase for all its subscription tiers, with monthly rates rising by up to $3 and annual rates by up to $30. This adjustment is effective immediately for new and returning subscribers, while existing subscribers will see the changes on their billing dates starting September 17.

The updated pricing structure is as follows:

  • Select Plan: Now $8.99 per month (previously $7.99) or $89.99 annually (up from $79.99).
  • Premium Plan: Increased to $12.99 per month (from $10.99) and $129.99 annually (up from $109.99).
  • Premium Plus Plan: Now $19.99 per month (previously $16.99) and $199.99 annually (up from $169.99).

Peacock states that these price adjustments are intended to enhance the viewer experience, maintain competitiveness, and continue delivering diverse content across various genres.

Notably, the Premium Plan has experienced the most significant percentage increase, approximately 18%. Annual plans remain priced at about ten times the new monthly rates, maintaining consistency in the pricing model.

Introduced in 2020, Peacock has expanded its offerings to include a range of original series, films, and live sports events. The platform’s growth reflects NBCUniversal’s commitment to providing a comprehensive streaming service.

In the broader streaming landscape, price increases have become common as platforms invest heavily in content creation and acquisition. For instance, Amazon Prime Video offers its service as part of the full Amazon Prime membership for $14.99/month or $139/year, with an additional $4.99/month required for an ad-free experience. This trend underscores the industry’s ongoing efforts to balance content investment with subscription revenue.

For consumers, these price adjustments highlight the importance of evaluating the value each streaming service offers. As the market evolves, subscribers may need to reassess their subscriptions to ensure they align with their viewing preferences and budgets.
