Oppo Reno 16 Launches with Innovative ‘Bubble’ Display Accessory

Oppo has unveiled its latest Reno 16 series, introducing two models: the standard Reno 16 and the Reno 16 Pro. Both devices offer impressive specifications and a sleek design, with the Pro model featuring a MediaTek Dimensity 8550 Super processor and 12GB of RAM, while the standard version is equipped with a Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 processor and 8GB of RAM. Battery capacities are substantial, with the Pro housing a 6,700 mAh battery and the standard model containing a 6,000 mAh battery. Display-wise, both phones sport 6.32-inch FHD+ screens, with the Pro model boasting a 144Hz refresh rate and the standard version at 120Hz.

In the camera department, the Reno 16 Pro stands out with a 200MP main camera, whereas the standard model features a 50MP main sensor. Both devices share identical 50MP ultrawide, telephoto, and selfie cameras. Running on Android 16 with Oppo’s ColorOS overlay, the Reno 16 series is set to launch in Europe on July 3, with the standard model priced at €899 and the Pro at €1,099.

A notable addition to the Reno 16 series is the ‘Bubble’ accessory—a wireless display that pairs with the phone to serve as a remote viewfinder. This feature is particularly useful for capturing selfies or group photos using the rear camera, as it functions up to approximately 10 meters away. The ‘Bubble’ can magnetically attach to the back of the phone; however, this requires a compatible case or an adhesive magnet ring, which Oppo includes with the accessory. Priced at €129, the ‘Bubble’ offers enhanced functionality but highlights the absence of built-in magnetic support in the Reno 16 series.

The introduction of the ‘Bubble’ accessory underscores Oppo’s commitment to innovative smartphone features. However, the reliance on external attachments for magnetic functionality raises questions about design choices, especially considering the growing adoption of integrated magnetic systems in the industry. As the Reno 16 series enters the market, it will be interesting to see how consumers respond to this blend of innovation and practicality.
