What’s New in Android 17 for Xperia
The Android 17 update introduces a lineup of useful upgrades: users can now activate a Desktop mode when connecting supported Xperia phones to external displays, enhancing multitasking and productivity. The update also expands customization for Quick Settings, the Lock Screen, and the Home Screen. Screen recording gets an overhaul to make capturing content easier. These changes aim to smooth out the user experience across the board.
Sony adds one exclusive feature for the Xperia 1 VIII: “Custom looks.” It allows users to tweak how the camera processes images—adjusting color tones and other imaging parameters. Users can save up to three presets for quick access, a feature reminiscent of what Google offers with its “Camera Looks” on its Pixel line.
Which Xperia Phones Will Get Android 17
Sony has confirmed Android 17 is rolling out now, but only on a handful of devices. The update will reach five models:

- Xperia 10 VIII
- Xperia 10 VII
The Xperia 1 VIII has already started receiving the update in some regions.
This update follows Sony’s existing policies around major Android upgrades, which tend to selectively include newer and higher-end devices. Compared to what users expect from flagship phone makers with long upgrade commitments, limiting Android 17 to just five phones could be viewed as a tightselection.
