Neko Health, the health technology company co-founded by Spotify’s Daniel Ek and Hjalmar Nilsonne, is set to open its first U.S. office in New York City on September 24. The new facility will be located at 300 Lafayette Street in the SoHo district, a neighborhood renowned for its upscale shopping and cultural attractions.
Founded in 2018, Neko Health specializes in advanced body-scanning technology designed to provide comprehensive health assessments. The company’s proprietary system combines full-body scans with blood tests and integrates data from fitness devices to evaluate an individual’s health status. This approach aims to detect conditions such as heart disease, skin cancer, and metabolic disorders at an early stage, facilitating proactive healthcare measures.
Since its inception, Neko Health has expanded its operations beyond Sweden, establishing clinics in the United Kingdom. The company reports that over 100,000 individuals have undergone scans at its facilities, with more than 350,000 people either registered on waitlists or having scheduled appointments. The forthcoming New York office has already attracted significant interest, with over 25,000 local residents joining the waitlist for services.
The healthcare technology sector has seen a surge in companies focusing on preventive health measures through innovative scanning technologies. For instance, Midjourney, an AI laboratory known for its image and video creation models, is developing a body scanner intended to be part of a spa experience, with plans to launch in San Francisco in 2027. Additionally, Fountain Life, co-founded by Tony Robbins and Peter Diamandis, offers health assessments and scans aimed at promoting longevity. Function Health, co-founded by wellness expert Dr. Mark Hyman, provides blood testing services and has recently incorporated body scans into its offerings following the acquisition of startup Ezra. Function Health recently secured a $450 million loan from General Catalyst’s Customer Value Fund, which involves profit-sharing repayment arrangements.
Neko Health’s expansion into the U.S. market signifies a growing demand for proactive and comprehensive health assessment services. By establishing a presence in New York City, the company aims to make its advanced scanning technology more accessible to a broader audience, potentially transforming the landscape of preventive healthcare in the region.
