Leaker Dismisses Foldable iPhone Delay Rumors

Recent speculation about potential delays in the release of Apple’s first foldable iPhone has been refuted by a prominent leaker. In a Weibo post, the leaker known as Fixed Focus Digital stated that rumors suggesting a postponement are unfounded and that claims of the device’s launch being pushed to next year are exaggerated.

Multiple reports have indicated that Apple’s inaugural foldable iPhone is slated to debut alongside the iPhone 18 Pro models this September. Fixed Focus Digital supports this timeline, suggesting that even if a delay occurs, it would likely be limited to approximately one month before the device becomes available for purchase.

Despite these assurances, there have been intermittent reports of engineering challenges during the device’s late-stage development. In May, leaker Instant Digital reported ongoing durability issues with the hinge mechanism of the foldable iPhone. While Apple is believed to have addressed concerns related to display creasing, long-term hinge reliability reportedly still falls short of the company’s stringent standards.

Apple is renowned for its rigorous reliability criteria, especially when introducing new product categories. Persistent hinge concerns at this advanced stage of development would be atypical so close to an anticipated launch.

In March, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggested that the foldable iPhone might not ship to customers simultaneously with the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in September. Prior to this, Barclays analyst Tim Long projected a December shipping date for the foldable iPhone, implying a potential three-month gap between its release and that of the iPhone 18 Pro models.

Apple has a history of staggered product launches. For instance, in 2017, the iPhone X was introduced alongside the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus but became available in November, two months after the other models. Therefore, even if the foldable iPhone’s release is delayed, it is expected to be announced during the annual iPhone event featuring the iPhone 18 Pro models, with availability following shortly thereafter.

The foldable iPhone is anticipated to feature a 7.8-inch inner display and a 5.5-inch cover display, powered by the A20 chip and C2 modem. It is expected to include a Touch ID power button instead of Face ID and two rear cameras, with a projected price point around $2,000.

As the foldable smartphone market continues to evolve, Apple’s entry is highly anticipated. The company’s commitment to quality and user experience suggests that any potential delays would be aimed at ensuring the device meets its high standards. Consumers should stay tuned for official announcements in the coming months.
