Apple’s upcoming iOS 27 introduces advanced features to the Home app, exclusively available to iCloud+ subscribers with a minimum of 2TB storage. These enhancements leverage Apple Intelligence to provide users with generated video descriptions for HomeKit Secure Video cameras, the ability to search for specific camera clips, and automatic highlighting of noteworthy footage.
In the latest developer beta of iOS 27, the Home app now indicates the number of HomeKit Secure Video cameras eligible for these AI-driven features. For instance, a user with an 8TB iCloud+ plan (comprising 6TB plus an additional 2TB from Apple One) is eligible for video summaries on up to 15 cameras. This suggests that higher-tier iCloud+ plans may support even more cameras with these capabilities.
Additionally, Apple has announced that select iCloud+ plans will offer increased daily usage limits for other Apple Intelligence features, such as image generation in the revamped Image Playground app. Specific limits for each iCloud+ tier are expected to be detailed upon iOS 27’s official release in September.
These advanced features are exclusive to higher-tier iCloud+ subscribers due to their reliance on powerful server models, which are more resource-intensive and costly to operate. This strategy underscores Apple’s approach to offering premium AI functionalities to its paying customers.
By integrating AI-driven enhancements into the Home app, Apple is not only enriching the user experience but also incentivizing users to opt for higher-tier iCloud+ subscriptions. This move reflects a broader trend in the tech industry, where companies are leveraging AI to provide value-added services, thereby driving subscription growth and customer retention.
