Huawei’s new Mate 90 Pro Max, unveiled in China this week, pushes the boundaries by letting users attach an entire camera module to the phone. While its built-in hardware already impresses, this add-on accessory elevates mobile photography to near-professional levels.
Powerhouse Specs With Built-In Excellence
The Mate 90 Pro Max comes packed with a 6.9-inch dual-layer OLED display, Huawei’s in-house Kirin 9050 (or Pro variant) chip, and 12 GB or 16 GB of RAM. It runs Harmony OS 7.0 and houses a large 6,800 mAh battery. Durable with IP68/69 ratings, it also carries an internal camera system that delivers high-end imaging: a 50 MP main shooter with a variable aperture, a 40 MP ultrawide lens, plus a 200 MP telephoto with 4× optical zoom. The front features a 13 MP sensor accompanied by a 3D depth sensor, partitioned into three separate cutouts.
The Z10 Add-On: A Whole Camera You Clip On
What really turns heads is the Z10 module, an external camera that attaches seamlessly to the Mate 90 Pro Max. It uses a 1-inch sensor with a 50 MP RYYB sensor—a design that replaces the phone’s built-in cameras when mounted. Its lens system spans a focal range from 24 mm to 240 mm, offering continuous 10× optical zoom and an aperture range between F2.0 and F4.5. The connection is made via HyperClick mount, enabling high-quality shots and quick shares.
Pricing and Availability
The Mate 90 Pro Max costs 9,499 Chinese Yuan (about USD 1,400), while the Z10 camera module carries a price of 5,999 CNY (around USD 900). Both are going on sale in China this week.
This release builds on Huawei’s long push into ultra-premium photography hardware. Previous generations delivered powerful camera phones—this takes the step of transforming the phone into a mount for a full, high-end lens setup. For photographers, content creators, and enthusiasts, the Z10 offers unequaled optical range in a mobile setup.
