Honor has officially launched its innovative Robot Phone in China, priced at approximately $1,500. This device stands out due to its unique robotic arm housing a 200MP camera with four degrees of freedom (4DoF) stabilization.
The robotic arm, known as the HONOR Titanium Agile Gimbal, is a compact mechanical system developed through 60 manufacturing processes and comprising over 100 precision components. Honor has secured more than 100 patents for this technology. Compared to standard gimbals, this system is 65% smaller and boasts a structural strength increase of 200%. The 2.6g Titanium Gimbal Motor enables control speeds up to 360° per second, while the HONOR Super Steel Flip Motor delivers a torque density of 120 N·m/L, facilitating rapid, precise movements and stable positioning within a pocket-sized flagship design.
Key functionalities of the robotic arm include gimbal stabilization for video recording, AI-powered subject tracking for videos and live streams, one-tap 90-degree or 180-degree rotation, and integration with Honor’s “Yoyo” AI assistant. The camera system benefits from Honor’s collaboration with ARRI, incorporating the LOGC3 recording format to enhance post-production editing and color grading capabilities.
Beyond its distinctive camera system, the Robot Phone features flagship-level specifications: a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor paired with Honor’s proprietary H1 imaging chip, a 6.31-inch FHD+ OLED display, up to 16GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage. The device also includes a 200MP telephoto lens and a 50MP ultrawide lens alongside the main 200MP sensor in the gimbal arm. Powering the device is a 7,060 mAh battery, and it runs on Android 16. The phone measures 9.59mm in thickness and weighs 248g, dimensions likely influenced by the inclusion of the gimbal arm.
Currently, the Robot Phone is available exclusively in China, with no announced plans for a global release. The starting price is set at RMB 9,999, which converts to approximately $1,500 USD.
Honor’s introduction of the Robot Phone marks a significant advancement in smartphone camera technology, blending mechanical innovation with AI capabilities. While its availability is limited to the Chinese market for now, the device sets a new benchmark for mobile photography and videography, potentially influencing future smartphone designs and features worldwide.
