Honor has officially launched its latest premium flagship, the Magic 9 Pro Max, in China, announcing truly standout specifications centered around cameras, display, and power. It carries forward its post-Robot Phone partnership with ARRI to deliver upgraded imaging across its triple rear lens setup, alongside major gains in battery life, charging, and ruggedness.
Camera system: ARRI influence and versatile shooting
The rear camera array is headlined by a 200-megapixel main sensor equipped with gimbal-level stabilization, meant to smooth out shoots and reduce shake. Alongside it sits another 200-MP telephoto lens offering 3.5× optical zoom (expanding further with digital zoom up to 200×), plus a 50-MP ultra-wide unit that includes autofocus. Honor and ARRI designed the setup to mimic the aesthetic styling of cinema cameras, complete with ARRI’s color tuning for improved photo and video output. For creators, Honor will offer two teleconverter lenses and a SmallRig-branded “Mobile Video Kit” to broaden shooting flexibility. Eclipse or portrait shots don’t lag: for selfies and biometric unlocking the Pro Max provides a 55-MP front camera paired with a 3D depth sensor.
Display, battery, and hardware power
Under the hood sits the brand-new Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, paired with at least 12 GB RAM and storage options ranging all the way to 1 TB. Honor’s own “Imaging Chip H1” handles enhanced camera processing, and the phone runs MagicOS 11 based on Android 17, showcasing its Liquid Glass design. The screen is a 6.8-inch LTPO OLED panel with a resolution of 2868×1320 pixels, featuring an adaptive refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz, and an extreme 4,320 Hz PWM dimming rate to ease eye strain. Topping the panel is NanoCrystal Shield glass with both anti-scratch and anti-reflective characteristics, and Honor claims a peak brightness of 10,000 nits.
On the power front, the device carries an 8,800 mAh battery—the largest seen in Honor’s high-end line so far—supporting 100 W wired charging and 80 W wireless. Durability is no afterthought: the phone is rated IP68, IP69, and IP69K for dust and water resistance.
Availability, price, and the broader lineup
The Honor Magic 9 Pro Max is available today in China, with confirmed upcoming launches in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Southeast Asia, and other international markets. However, there’s no indication yet that the handset will ship officially to the U.S. at this point. Alongside the Pro Max, Honor is also releasing the standard Magic 9 in China, which follows much of the same design language but with a smaller 6.37-inch display, slightly less power from the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, and an 8,000 mAh battery.
