Google is rolling out a new early experiment for Pixel 11 phones called “Call for Me,” powered by Gemini Intelligence. Building on features like Direct My Call and Hold for Me, this service allows users to have the AI place routine phone calls—such as booking restaurant patio seating, checking store inventory, or rescheduling appointments—on their behalf.
How it works
The AI operates through the Gemini app, which makes the call, handles automated phone menus, waits on hold, and takes the lead in interaction. The user, however, remains in control—seeing a live transcript of the conversation and able to step in at any moment. The system starts with Gemini introducing itself at the beginning of the call.
Availability and user experience
Call for Me is now in beta for Gemini subscribers with Pixel 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro XL, and 11 Pro Fold devices in the U.S., provided they are enrolled in the Phone by Google beta. Google is limiting it to simpler tasks for now, to carefully refine how it works.
Google says the service will reflect the user’s voice of intent, treating the call as though a real customer is doing it—while also being mindful of the person answering. The company emphasizes user control, clarity, and transparency as core design goals.
“Call for Me” shares lineage with Google Duplex, which first attempted to automate human-sounding calls for reservations and related tasks. The move represents continuity in Google’s efforts to hand off mundane chores to AI, easing burdens on users.
For now, only a limited number of users in the U.S. with eligible hardware and software will gain access. As testing continues, Google will likely expand both the feature set and its availability.
