Google has released version 5.05 of its Health app, bringing notable enhancements for iOS users and addressing several bugs across platforms. This update is now available on the App Store for iOS devices and is gradually rolling out to Android users via the Play Store.
For iOS users, a significant addition is the integration with Apple Health. This feature allows data recorded by devices like the Fitbit Air to sync seamlessly with Apple Health. Users can share exercise records, step counts, vital statistics, and sleep data between the two platforms. To enable this functionality, navigate to the profile icon within the Google Health app, select ‘Partner apps,’ and choose Apple Health. Follow the setup prompts to establish the connection or review permissions to manage data sharing preferences.
In the United States, the update introduces ‘Smart Health Links,’ a feature designed to facilitate the sharing of medical record summaries with healthcare providers or family members. This secure method can be particularly useful during medical appointments to supplement health histories. To create a Smart Health Link, go to the Health tab, select the ‘Medical’ section, and tap on ‘Shareable records.’ From there, choose the data to include and generate a link, which can be shared via URL or QR code.
Additionally, the update addresses several fitness-related issues. Stability improvements have been made to VO2Max calculations, ensuring more accurate assessments of cardiovascular fitness. Issues with exercise maps and the editing of workouts post-completion have also been resolved, enhancing the overall user experience.
These updates reflect Google’s ongoing commitment to refining the Health app, aiming to provide a more integrated and user-friendly experience. The introduction of Apple Health integration and Smart Health Links signifies a step towards greater interoperability and convenience for users managing their health data across different platforms.
