Recently, owners of the original Pixel Watch encountered an error message in the Google Health app, indicating that their device required an update to continue syncing sleep and workout data. The message stated that the watch was running an outdated version of Wear OS and would soon cease syncing health data unless updated.
This alert caused concern among users, especially since the last official update for the Pixel Watch 1 was released in October 2025. That update brought the device to Wear OS 5.1, based on Android 15, with a security patch dated June 5, 2025. Throughout its lifecycle, the Pixel Watch 1 received updates transitioning from Wear OS 3.5 (Android 11) to Wear OS 5.1 (Android 15). Google had initially committed to providing three years of updates for the device.
In response to the error message, Google clarified that the Pixel Watch 1 remains fully supported and that the notification was a result of a bug causing some users to receive the message incorrectly. The company assured users that their devices would continue to function as expected without the need for any immediate updates.
This incident highlights the importance of clear communication regarding device support and updates. For users, it underscores the need to verify such messages through official channels before taking action. As wearable technology continues to evolve, maintaining transparency about device support timelines is crucial for user trust and satisfaction.
