With the roll-out of Gemini 4 Argon, Google has merged its Antigravity platform into the Gemini app for macOS, lifting Antigravity out of its standalone status on Mac, Windows, Linux, and Android and embedding it directly into Gemini’s interface.
What Is Antigravity and Why Aim for Unity?
Antigravity is Google’s agent-first development framework, launched in version 2.0 at I/O 2026. Designed to let users design and run agents—small programs that follow instructions autonomously—it’s been evolving quickly since May of this year with updates landing nearly weekly or even every few days.
Previously, Antigravity lived in its own application on multiple platforms, including Googlebook on Android. The recent move combines it under the Gemini umbrella for macOS, enabling users to access Antigravity’s full functionality from within Gemini itself—via a “Liquid Glass” pill located in the top-right corner of the app. Clicking it opens the Antigravity experience previously found only in its dedicated app.
Access Levels, UI Tweaks & Workflow Streamlining
The integration of Antigravity aligns with enhanced coding capabilities in Gemini 4 Argon, letting users build apps, web experiences, and more all from Gemini. But there are limits: running Gemini itself at “AI Pro” tier gains access to core features; to use Antigravity specifically, users will need the upgraded “AI Ultra” tier.
Gemini on macOS also gets a redesigned switcher between “Chat” and “Task” modes—”Task” replaces the former Gemini Spark. In the navigation drawer, the search tool has moved into the top-right, and there’s a new “Scheduled” view that combines Spark tasks and scheduled actions.
Other enhancements include replacing slash commands with an @mention system for accessing Skills, and a renamed side panel that brings together Skills and Connectors (formerly Connected Apps) under a “Customize” section.
This release lands starting today, though users are advised to ensure they are on the latest version of the Gemini app for macOS to see all changes.
What this means: Google is tightening the integration between its AI tools, building toward a streamlined creator experience. Folding Antigravity into Gemini means fewer context switches, a unified platform for coding agents, and a clearer product roadmap. The pricing tiers (Pro vs Ultra) matter more now, determining whether you just chat or build—so watch whether Google keeps pushing envelope-versus-paywall tension, and how competitors respond.
