Unlike earlier AI browsers that aimed to replace traditional search engines or facilitate occasional tasks like booking travel, Polar focuses on the daily workflows of professionals. Jiang observed that previous models lacked sustained user engagement because tasks such as booking flights are infrequent for most users. In contrast, knowledge workers engage in complex, repetitive tasks that can benefit significantly from automation.
Polar enables users to schedule workflows, save prompts, and assign tasks to AI agents based on their open tabs. This functionality is particularly beneficial for roles in sales, recruitment, marketing, research, and business operations. The browser is designed to be user-friendly, allowing non-technical users to automate tasks seamlessly.
The browser is available for free, offering a limited number of daily credits for AI tasks. For users requiring higher limits, subscription plans start at $20 per month. Currently, many users employ Polar alongside their primary browsers, utilizing it specifically for task automation. The company envisions Polar as a versatile automation tool and is open to exploring applications beyond the browser environment.
Polar has secured a $5.7 million seed funding round led by Madrona. Sabrina Albert, a partner at Madrona, emphasized the significant market potential for automating tasks for knowledge workers. She highlighted the advantages of building a web browser that understands user interactions and engagements, especially when users are logged into various services.
Other notable investors in this round include former GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke, Phia founder Phoebe Gates, Modal CEO Erik Bernhardsson, Flapping Airplanes co-founder Benjamin Spector, Etched co-founder Rob Wachen, and Fundamental Research Labs co-founder and CEO Robert Yang.
