First RCs for macOS Sequoia 15.8.2 & Tahoe 26.7.2 Hit Developers

Apple has released the first release candidates (RC-1) of two point-updates: macOS Sequoia 15.8.2 and macOS Tahoe 26.7.2. These builds are now available to developers and bring important security fixes, following the pattern of typical maintenance releases for older macOS versions.

What’s New in These RCs

Rather than going through standard beta stages, Apple skipped straight to RCs for both Sequoia 15.8.2 and Tahoe 26.7.2. Similar to last month’s updates—Sequoia 15.8.1 and Tahoe 26.7.1, which also saw two RCs before their public release—these updates aim to shore up core security components. The release notes merely advise that the updates offer “important security fixes and [are] recommended for all users.”

One of the prior updates, 15.8.1 / 26.7.1, addressed a serious vulnerability in CoreGraphics involving maliciously crafted files that could lead to arbitrary code execution. Notably, that flaw had reportedly already been exploited in a sophisticated attack targeting specific individuals running versions of iOS before iOS 27. Apple is expected to elaborate on the specific issues patched in 15.8.2 and 26.7.2 once the public roll-out is underway.

Build Numbers & Timeline

The developer RC build for Sequoia 15.8.2 comes in as version 24H219, while Tahoe’s 26.7.2 RC is labeled 25G320. The public release of these updates is anticipated in the coming weeks, likely arriving in tandem with macOS 27.2, also known as Golden Gate, which is currently in its public beta phase.

These maintenance updates continue Apple’s approach of keeping older macOS branches secure even as newer releases roll out. For many users on Sequoia and Tahoe, updating to 15.8.2 or 26.7.2 RC-1 now will help ensure protection against critical vulnerabilities.
