Google has updated its Find Hub application for Wear OS, introducing a new ‘Find People’ feature. This addition allows users to view a list of contacts who have access to their location information, along with the duration of this access.
The ‘Find People’ icon is green and features a radar-like design, consistent with the existing Find Hub aesthetic. Upon selecting a contact from the list, users are presented with a message indicating that the contact can see their location until the user decides to disable this sharing. However, the app currently lacks a map view on the smartwatch itself; instead, it provides a link to view the contact’s location on the user’s paired smartphone.
Additionally, there is a known issue where selecting ‘Settings’ within the app launches Google Play services in full, which may not be the intended behavior.
The update, version 1.0.429.0, is now available for download via the Google Play Store.
While the introduction of the ‘Find People’ feature marks a step forward in integrating location-sharing capabilities directly into Wear OS devices, the absence of an on-device map view limits its immediate utility. Users must still rely on their smartphones for detailed location information. Future updates that incorporate a map interface directly on the smartwatch would significantly enhance the functionality and user experience of this feature.
