Clicks has unveiled a working prototype of its upcoming Clicks Communicator, a productivity-focused Android smartphone featuring a physical keyboard. This marks the first time the device has been showcased in an operational state, highlighting both its hardware and software functionalities.
The Clicks Communicator is designed to offer a modern take on the classic physical keyboard phone, reminiscent of devices like the BlackBerry. It runs on a custom version of Android, utilizing the Niagara Launcher to provide a streamlined user experience. The home screen displays a user-defined list of favorite apps, with an alphabetical app ribbon on the side for quick access to all installed applications. Users can rearrange favorites and initiate searches directly using the physical keyboard.
One notable feature is the integration of notifications from favorite apps directly into the home screen, minimizing disruptions and optimizing the limited screen space. Swiping on an app reveals a larger preview with options to reply or take other actions, enhancing productivity.
The hardware includes a removable rear panel, allowing users to easily switch SIM and microSD cards. This design choice caters to users who appreciate the flexibility and functionality often missing in modern smartphones. Additionally, the device retains a 3.5mm headphone jack, addressing a common demand among users.
