Apple’s Upcoming Mac Lineup: Touchscreens, OLEDs, and New Chips

Apple is preparing a series of significant updates to its Mac lineup, with new models and technologies set to debut over the next few years. These developments encompass enhancements to the MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac, and more.

Upcoming Releases

By the end of this year, Apple plans to introduce several new Mac models:

  • An entry-level MacBook Pro featuring the M6 chip.
  • Updated iMacs.
  • High-end 14-inch and 16-inch touchscreen MacBook models equipped with OLED displays and powered by M5 Pro and M5 Max chips.

The high-end MacBook models are expected to launch between late this year and early next year, with testing currently underway using macOS 27.1, anticipated for release at the end of October.

Future Developments

Looking ahead to early 2027, Apple is planning an updated MacBook Air lineup. Additionally, a redesigned entry-level MacBook Pro powered by the M7 chip is in development for next year. The company is also working on a new MacBook Neo, testing a model powered by the A19 Pro chip, with plans to periodically refresh this line with new color options.

Apple is testing a Mac mini lineup powered by the M5 Pro and base M6 processors. New Mac Studio models are also in testing, featuring the M5 Max and M5 Ultra processors. However, the release timing and configurations of these machines depend on the availability of memory chips.

Further into the future, an OLED MacBook Air is in development, potentially arriving as early as 2028. An OLED iMac is also reportedly in the works, following the OLED MacBook Air.

These developments indicate Apple’s commitment to innovation in its Mac lineup, introducing new technologies such as OLED displays and touchscreen capabilities. The shift to more powerful chips across various models suggests a focus on enhancing performance and user experience. As these products roll out, it will be interesting to see how they influence the broader computing market and how competitors respond to these advancements.
