Apple is preparing to introduce a new smart home hub, potentially as early as October 2026. This device is designed to integrate seamlessly into various home environments, including kitchens, living rooms, and bedrooms. It will be available in both tabletop and wall-mounted versions, with Apple anticipating that many users will opt to place multiple units throughout their homes.
The upcoming hub combines features of the HomePod with a 7-inch display, running on a new operating system derived from tvOS. The interface is expected to blend elements from tvOS, watchOS, and iOS, featuring a grid of icons, widgets, and customizable clock faces.
Key functionalities include FaceTime video calls, home security monitoring, management of HomeKit accessories, photo galleries, calendar access, music playback, and an intercom system for communication between multiple Apple home devices. Additionally, the hub will incorporate facial recognition technology to personalize displayed information based on the user, adjusting interface elements as users approach or move away.
Apple is also developing an advanced in-home security camera to compete with existing products like Amazon’s Ring, further expanding its smart home ecosystem.
