Apple’s First OLED Touch MacBook Pro Likely This October/November

Apple is reportedly preparing to launch its first MacBook Pro models with touch-enabled OLED displays this fall. Insiders expect both the 14-inch and 16-inch versions to debut in October or November, following testing under macOS 27.2. Actual availability could hinge on how smoothly that software update rolls out.

What to Expect

These new MacBook Pros are tipped to feature a dramatic design overhaul. Key changes may include an OLED touchscreen, a thinner chassis, and a Dynamic Island replacing the longtime notch at the top of the display. The machines are also said to use current-generation M5 Pro and M5 Max chips.

There’s been speculation about additional advances. For instance, Apple previously explored adding built-in 5G or LTE cellular connectivity to Macs, making for truly untethered wireless access. Many are wondering if one of the touch-enabled models will ship with Apple’s own custom modem—rumored as the C1X or C2.

MacBook Product Line Shift

The touch-enabled OLED versions are expected to be positioned above the standard 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros, which themselves are slated to upgrade to M7 Pro and M7 Max processors next year. It remains uncertain whether Apple will keep the MacBook Pro name for these high-end machines—or introduce a new branding, possibly “MacBook Ultra.”

On the software side, Apple is currently putting these models through testing with macOS 27.2, which is in beta and expected to launch toward the end of October. If all goes according to plan, the hardware reveal could align with or follow shortly thereafter.

Apple leakers suggest that announcement is coming very soon with October being the earliest likely month, though delays to November are also possible.

What this means is a shift in the laptop landscape. Moving to OLED and touch would bring MacBooks closer to iPad and Surface-style flexibility, while adding features like a Dynamic Island signals intent to unify design across Apple product lines. The rumored addition of a modem could also open new use-cases for professionals who travel or work off-grid. What to watch for: supply constraints, battery life under an OLED touch design, and the naming—MacBook Pro vs. Ultra—that will signal Apple’s ambition in its next flagship laptop lineup.
