Apple Unveils 24-inch iMac with M6 Chip, N1 Wireless, and Speed Upgrades

Apple has introduced its latest 24-inch iMac featuring the new M6 chip, upgraded wireless hardware, enhanced storage performance, and familiar design edges. The refreshed all-in-one aims to offer better speed without changing the well-loved aesthetics of its predecessor.

What’s new under the hood

The biggest change is the inclusion of the Apple M6 chip, which brings notably faster performance compared to the prior generation. Alongside the M6, the system gains a new N1 chip that enables support for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, setting new wireless connectivity standards for Apple’s desktop lineup. The SSDs have also been revamped, delivering higher read/write speeds to reduce lag in demanding tasks.

The exterior remains unchanged: same 24-inch screen, same vibrant color palette. Blue, green, pink, yellow, purple, orange, and silver stay in the mix. That means this update is squarely about performance and what’s inside rather than a redesign.

Configurations, pricing & availability

The entry model in the U.S. costs US$1,499. It includes the M6 chip with a 10-core CPU, a 10-core GPU, a dual 16-core Neural Engine, and two Thunderbolt 4 ports. For those who need wired networking, a 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port is available as an add-on for US$30.

Pre-orders kick off on Wednesday, October 28 at 10:10 a.m. Pacific Time, with the official launch slated for Friday, November 6. That gives customers just over a week between reservation window and delivery to make their plans.

This isn’t Apple’s first iMac update in the M-series era — previous models switched from Intel CPUs over several years, with successive versions improving graphics, battery (for laptops), and machine-learning capabilities. The M6 represents the next evolutionary step for desktops, especially with upgraded wireless standards. It’s a push toward future-proofing Apple’s iMac line.

What this means: For everyday users, these upgrades translate into snappier performance in apps, faster file transfers over Wi-Fi, and more responsive Bluetooth peripherals. Pro users will appreciate enhanced SSD speed and wireless improvements especially in workflows relying on networking or large data transfers. What to watch: whether third-party RAM/SSD options emerge, how thermal performance holds up under load, and what follow-ups Apple plans for larger iMac models.
