Apple TV’s hit comedy-crime series Bad Monkey is set to return for its second season on December 2, 2026, rolling out ten new episodes through February 3, 2027. This season marks a shift: rather than adapting Carl Hiaasen’s novels as season one did, the show will deliver an original story with continuing support from Hiaasen himself. Season two promises new mysteries, criminal chaos, and more Florida-flavored absurdity.
Fresh faces, old tricks: what fans can expect
Vince Vaughn returns as Andrew Yancy, the ex-Miami cop turned restaurant inspector who always seems to stumble into crime. He’ll be joined by regulars Natalie Martinez (Dr. Rosa Campensino), Charlotte Lawrence (Caitlin), and John Ortiz (Rogelio). New additions to the cast include John Malkovich as Spencer, a crime boss in South Florida; Yvonne Strahovski as Delaney West, a Congresswoman; and Zavior Phillips in a newly announced role as well. Other guest and recurring names added to the ensemble are Sofia Boutella, Dax Shepard, Peter Billingsley, June Diane Raphael, Nate Jackson, Margarita Levieva, Keyla Monterroso Mejia, and Mo Amer.
New plot beats and production updates
Season two opens with Yancy witnessing the murder of a well-known fixer in Florida. Tasked with reopening his detective life, he pairs up with a straight-laced forensic accountant while navigating rival crime syndicates, environmental threats, and strained personal ties. Among the arcs: Rosa investigates a strange rash; Yancy confronts his aging father; and the animal relocation business looms as a potential danger to the Keys.
Production has relocated from the Florida Keys to Los Angeles, where sets will replicate Florida’s tropical feel. This move was supported by a state incentive of about US$20 million. Although season one hewed closely to Hiaasen’s original novel, season two forges its own storyline, with the author consulting on core elements to ensure authenticity to the series’ Florida roots.
Episodes will debut weekly on Apple TV starting December 2, with the premiere making its global debut alongside weekly drops until the season concludes on February 3, 2027.
With its mix of quirky crime, off-beat characters, and the natural absurdity of its Florida Keys setting, Bad Monkey has carved out a unique place among Apple TV’s original programming. Season one was praised for its sharp writing and strong cast; season two expands those strengths while taking creative risks. What will matter now is how well the show balances its brand of weirdness with new dramatic stakes—and whether the shift away from novel-based plots keeps both the tone and the fans intact.
