Apple Pay Chief Jennifer Bailey to Retire After 25 Years at Apple

Jennifer Bailey, Apple’s Vice President of Apple Pay and Wallet, has announced her retirement, effective October 2026. Bailey’s tenure at Apple spans over 25 years, during which she played a pivotal role in the development and expansion of Apple’s payment and wallet services.

Bailey joined Apple in the early 2000s, initially leading the Apple Online Store team starting in 2003. In 2014, she transitioned to oversee the launch of Apple Pay, a service that has since become a cornerstone of Apple’s ecosystem, facilitating secure and convenient transactions for users worldwide. Under her leadership, Apple Pay expanded its reach and functionality, integrating with various financial institutions and merchants globally.

In an internal memo, Eddy Cue, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Services, commended Bailey’s contributions, highlighting her instrumental role in the growth of the Apple Online Store and the successful introduction of Apple Pay. Cue also mentioned that a succession plan would be announced before Bailey’s departure, ensuring a smooth transition.

Bailey’s departure is part of a series of recent executive changes at Apple. Notably, John Ternus is set to succeed Tim Cook as CEO on September 1, 2026. Additionally, Josh Rosenstock, a senior director of corporate communications, is also leaving the company in an unrelated move.

Bailey’s retirement marks the end of a significant chapter in Apple’s history, particularly in the realm of digital payments. Her leadership has been instrumental in positioning Apple Pay as a leading mobile payment solution. As Apple continues to innovate in the financial technology sector, the forthcoming leadership transition will be crucial in maintaining the momentum and success established under Bailey’s guidance.
