Apple Moves to Fix iOS 26 Bug Locking Users Out Due to Missing Czech Keyboard Character

Apple Addresses iPhone Passcode Bug Caused by Missing Czech Keyboard Character

Apple is actively developing a software update to resolve a critical issue in iOS 26 that has left certain users locked out of their iPhones. This problem stems from the removal of a specific special character from the Czech keyboard layout, which is essential for users with custom alphanumeric passcodes.

The issue came to light when Connor Byrne, a 21-year-old university student, shared his experience online. Byrne had set a complex alphanumeric passcode on his iPhone 13, incorporating the caron or háček (ˇ) symbol from the Czech keyboard. Following the iOS 26 update, this character was inadvertently removed from the lock screen keyboard, rendering him unable to enter his passcode and access his device. The only available solution was a factory reset, which would erase all data on the device. To preserve his data, Byrne chose to wait for a software fix.

Apple’s engineering team has acknowledged the problem and is working on a targeted fix to restore the missing character. This update is expected to be included in an upcoming iOS 26 release. In the meantime, users are advised to regularly back up their data to iCloud or other storage solutions to prevent potential data loss from similar issues.
