Apple Declares iPhone X and 2018 MacBook Pro Obsolete

Apple has recently updated its product classifications, designating the iPhone X and the 15-inch 2018 MacBook Pro as obsolete. This change signifies that these devices are no longer eligible for hardware service or repairs through Apple or its authorized service providers.

According to Apple’s policies, a product is labeled as obsolete when it has been discontinued from sale for over seven years. Once a device attains this status, Apple ceases all hardware support, and service providers are unable to procure parts for repairs. Prior to this, products are considered vintage if they have been out of distribution for more than five but less than seven years, during which service is provided only as long as parts are available.

The iPhone X, introduced in 2017, marked a significant shift in Apple’s smartphone design with its edge-to-edge OLED display and the removal of the Home button. It was last sold in 2018, making it eligible for the obsolete classification in 2026. Similarly, the 15-inch 2018 MacBook Pro, known for its Touch Bar and enhanced performance, has reached the end of its support lifecycle.

Users of these devices should be aware that they will no longer receive hardware support from Apple. While the devices will continue to function, any necessary repairs will need to be handled by third-party services, which may have limited access to genuine parts. This development underscores the importance of considering device longevity and support when making technology investments.
