Amazon Tests Alexa+ in India with Hindi Support

Amazon is expanding its AI-powered voice assistant, Alexa+, to the Indian market by initiating beta tests for Hindi language support. The company has begun inviting select users in India to participate in this program, aiming to refine Alexa+’s capabilities in understanding and responding in Hindi.

In recent communications, Amazon reached out to customers, encouraging them to join the Alexa+ Beta program. Participants are required to complete a form in Hindi by June 22 to be considered. The invitation highlights the importance of user feedback in enhancing Alexa+’s performance, acknowledging that the beta version may contain bugs or inaccuracies, particularly concerning local nuances.

While Alexa+ is not yet available in India, this beta testing marks a significant step toward its eventual launch. Amazon introduced Alexa to the Indian market in 2017 with English support and expanded to include Hindi in 2019. With over 600 million Hindi speakers in India, the company aims to cater to a vast audience that often uses a mix of Hindi and English in daily communication.

Voice interaction is becoming increasingly pivotal in the adoption of AI tools in India. Recognizing this trend, companies are exploring innovative ways to facilitate seamless conversations between users and digital assistants. Amazon’s initiative to integrate Hindi support into Alexa+ aligns with this broader movement to make technology more accessible to diverse linguistic groups.

Initially announced in 2025, Alexa+ represents Amazon’s foray into generative AI-powered conversational assistants. Its rollout has been gradual, with the service becoming available to all U.S. users in February. Since then, Amazon has expanded Alexa+ to countries including the U.K., Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Italy, and Germany, incorporating local context into its functionality. In these regions, Alexa+ is offered free to Prime members, while other users can access the service for a monthly fee.

Amazon’s proactive approach in testing Hindi support for Alexa+ underscores the company’s commitment to localizing its services to meet the unique needs of the Indian market. By embracing linguistic diversity, Amazon not only enhances user experience but also positions itself favorably in a competitive landscape where understanding and catering to local preferences are crucial for success.
