AI Automation Startup Relay Shuts Down; Team Joins Google’s Chrome Division

Relay, an AI-driven workflow automation startup founded in 2021, has announced its closure. The company’s founder and CEO, Jacob Bank, along with several team members, will be joining Google’s Chrome division.

Relay was established with the aim of enhancing productivity by automating repetitive tasks such as document drafting and project management. The platform sought to provide businesses with tools to streamline their operations through AI-powered automation.

Jacob Bank, who previously co-founded the smart scheduling app Timeful, sold that venture to Google in 2015. At Google, he contributed to products like Gmail and Google Calendar before leaving to start Relay. With Relay’s closure, Bank returns to Google as Vice President of Product for Chrome, where he will oversee product development and developer relations.

In a recent statement, Bank emphasized his commitment to integrating AI into tools that enhance user productivity. He highlighted plans to incorporate AI features into Chrome to assist users in accomplishing tasks more efficiently.

The integration of Relay’s team into Google’s Chrome division reflects a broader trend of tech giants acquiring AI talent to bolster their product offerings. This move underscores the increasing importance of AI in enhancing user experiences and streamlining workflows within widely-used platforms.
